How Much Does Concrete Cost in Southfield, MI in 2026?

Concrete cost in Southfield, MI for 2026: national prices for driveways, patios, slabs, stamped work, removal, walks and walls, and how to compare quotes.

By national figures, plain installed concrete costs about $6 to $12 a square foot in 2026. We do not publish a Southfield price list, because two jobs of the same size here can differ a lot. Breaking out an old 1960s driveway, digging out wet clay, building a stone base and getting the truck to the back of a narrow lot are what move the price.

Every price on this page is a national figure published by HomeGuide for 2026. None of them is a quote from The Southfield Concrete Company. Local labor and material costs, access for the truck, the state of the ground under the slab and the finish you choose all move a real price. Checked October 2026.

How much does a concrete driveway cost?

HomeGuide puts a concrete driveway at $6 to $15 a square foot nationally, or $2,400 to $8,600 for a common two-car size. Plain concrete is $6 to $10 a square foot and basic decorative work is $10 to $15. On a Southfield driveway, two lines on the quote matter most: how deep the crushed stone base goes, and whether the mix is air-entrained to stand up to salt and frost.

Driveway size or typeNational installed cost (HomeGuide 2026)
20x20 (400 sq ft)$2,400 to $6,000
24x24 (576 sq ft)$3,500 to $8,600
Plain, per sq ft$6 to $10
Basic decorative, per sq ft$10 to $15

How much does concrete cost per square foot?

For an installed slab, HomeGuide's national cost per square foot is $6 to $12. A 4 inch slab runs $6 to $8 a square foot and a 6 inch slab $8 to $10. That price usually covers forms, base, concrete, finishing and labor on an ordinary site. Tear-out of an old slab and extra base where the clay is soft are added when a job needs them.

How much does a concrete patio cost? What is a fair price for a 20x20 patio?

Nationally, a plain concrete patio costs $4 to $12 a square foot, and a stamped or stained one $8 to $30. A fair national range for a 20x20 patio is $1,600 to $4,800 plain, or $3,200 to $12,000 stamped or stained. A plain 12x12 is listed at $600 to $1,700. HomeGuide does not list a 12x20 or 16x20, so multiply the square feet (240 or 320) by the per-foot figure for a rough range.

How much does it cost to pour a slab for a 24x24 garage or a 30x40 shop?

HomeGuide lists a 10x10 slab at $600 to $1,200, a 12x12 at $860 to $1,700, a 20x20 at $2,400 to $4,800 and a 30x30 at $5,400 to $10,800. It has no row for 24x24 or 30x40. Using its $6 to $12 per square foot range, a 24x24 slab (576 sq ft) works out to about $3,460 to $6,900, and a 30x40 slab (1,200 sq ft) to about $7,200 to $14,400. Those are our arithmetic, not published figures. A garage or shop in Michigan also needs footings 42 inches below grade under the state code, which is priced from the plans.

How much is a yard of concrete?

Ready-mix costs $119 to $147 per cubic yard by HomeGuide's national figure, with delivery up to 20 miles included. That is the concrete only. The finished cost per yard is much higher, because excavation, base stone, forms, steel, finishing and cleanup make up most of the bill. Small loads, waiting time for the truck and cold-weather additives can add charges.

How much does it cost to remove and replace an old driveway?

Add two numbers to remove and replace an old driveway. Removal runs $3 to $8 a square foot nationally with disposal, or $1,200 to $4,500 for a full driveway. New concrete adds $6 to $15 a square foot. When we price a replacement, breaking out and hauling away the old slab is its own line, so you can see what that part costs.

How much does stamped concrete cost compared with plain? Is there extra for color or stain?

HomeGuide's national figure for stamped concrete is $8 to $19 a square foot, against $6 to $10 for a plain driveway and $4 to $12 for a plain patio. It lists a 20x20 stamped patio at $3,200 to $7,600, a two-car stamped driveway at $6,900 to $10,400 and a 4x20 stamped walk at $800 to $1,700. There is no published figure for adding only color or stain, so we give no number for that. It is priced once we see the slab and you pick a color.

How much does a concrete walkway cost?

Nationally, an installed concrete walkway costs $7 to $17 a square foot. For a 4 foot wide walk, that is $28 to $68 a running foot, and HomeGuide's average job is $1,400 to $3,400. A public sidewalk in Southfield also needs a right-of-way permit from the city's Engineering Department, which is part of the job.

How much does a concrete retaining wall cost?

The national average for a concrete retaining wall is $3,000 to $10,000, according to HomeGuide. Per running foot, that is $45 to $270, or $15 to $45 per square foot of wall face. Walls around Southfield are mostly short, but the footing below frost and the drainage stone and pipe behind the wall are part of every price, because wet clay pushes hard.

How much does a parking pad or sidewalk cost for a small business?

We have no published figure for commercial parking pads or lot sections, so we do not give one. A small business job is priced after a visit, because the thickness, steel, drainage, accessible routes, traffic control and any right-of-way permit all change the cost. For a plain business sidewalk, the national walkway figures above are a fair starting point.

My three quotes for the same patio are far apart. Which do I trust?

Trust the quote that spells out what you get. When three quotes are far apart, the gap is usually in the parts you cannot see after the pour: how deep they dig, how much stone goes in and how it is compacted, slab thickness, steel, an air-entrained mix and the joint plan. Put the quotes side by side line by line. On Southfield clay, a patio on a thin base can look perfect in June and crack after its first winter.

The contractor wants extra for a gravel base after demolition. Is that fair?

It can be fair, if the contract said ahead of time how hidden conditions would be handled. Nobody knows what is under an old slab until it is broken out. Soft wet clay, a void or buried debris does call for more base, and that costs money. A good contract names a unit price for extra base and says it needs your approval. If the charge appeared with nothing in writing, look at the ground and get a signed change order before you agree.

How do I know if a concrete quote is fair?

A quote is fair if its price sits within the published range for the work and it tells you exactly what is included. Look for square footage, thickness, base depth and compaction, steel, the mix, joints, finish, tear-out and haul-away, permits, cleanup and the payment schedule. A cheap number with none of that listed is not a bargain. You cannot tell what you are buying.
